Amber's 4th grade class performed a musical program this week called " How the West Was Sung". The kids sang Western songs and did some square dancing. Mr. Dendler, the music teacher is amazing. He is so talented and the kids work really hard for him.
Amber had a solo in the program. She did a beautiful job. She sang a song titled "Erie Canal". The Erie Canal was built in the early 1800's to transport people and goods between Albany and Buffalo, New York. The canal linked the Hudson River with the Great Lakes. In those days, flat-bottomed boats called barges were towed by mules who walked beside the canal. "Erie Canal" is a song the mule riders sang. Fitting for Amber to sing since she loves animals so much and can picture herself riding along on a mule.
The kids all played "Home on the Range" with their recorders. You can see them around their necks in this picture.
